Jennings Brewery - Sneck Lifter

What an unusual name. Sneck Lifter? What could it be and how does it represent this ale?

Well, according to the bottle text, a Sneck is a door latch, and a Sneck lifter is someone who would open the latch with only a sixpence to his name, and be able to afford just one beer.

If I only had a sixpence, then I would be pretty chuffed if I bought this bottle of beer! It has a beautiful dark chestnut brown colour with an off-white head. You know you're in for a treat when you can smell the beer before you taste it. This one certainly packs a punch.

It's carbonated and heavy with a very strong bitter malt, almost coffee taste. Furthermore, I dare you to take one sip without having to smack your lips. It's very strong but very satisfying. It must be noted that I am having this in summer however this beer is better suited to an old pub with a Sunday roast in midwinter.

It is with great pleasure that I give this beer a 6 out of 10. Try it and buy it... And be a Sneck Lifter!
