Hall & Woodhouse Brewery - Blandford Flyer

When I first spotted this beer on my supermarket shelf, I was enticed by its beautifully branded bottle and its promise of spicy ginger notes. I took it home, prized off the cap and took a deep sniff. To my surprise I could definitely smell the ginger.

I then ventured on and took a lingering sip of the golden coloured brew. It was divine, with a sweet, almost caramel flavour mixed with the spicy ginger was very satisfying. However after a plentiful few swigs, the beer took on a different body altogether.

Ultimately, the ginger and caramel were still there but the lack of hops and a meagre malt content made this beer seem overwhelmingly sweet, tinged with the bitterness of malt did not work for my palate.

All is not lost however, the Blandford Flyer is still a decent beer with an interesting and unique taste however in my opinion is best consumed as a half pint with a savoury food. Therefore I rate this ale a 4 out of 10.
